Peirano Estate Wine
Heritage Collection
Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

This little gem of a winery that I found at the tail end of 2011 has my 2012 looking rather good!  They have been making wine through generations of family, some of the “oldest” estate vines around California and I just discovered them this past year and now you will too!

Peirano Estate Winery is located in Lodi, CA area. One of the best aspects of this winery is that they produce a wide variety of wines; over 13 to choose from and they are ALL good and they are ALL $14 per bottle! You heard me, doesn’t matter if you like the Viognier (who wouldn’t) to the Zinfandel – they all cost the same. Something unheard of when choosing wines from most wineries. Buying by the case gives you even further discounts and they will let you select different wines to make a “mixed case”. This is a great example of California wineries really putting themselves our there to be accessible to everyday wine drinkers. Getting the word out is what this blog is about! 🙂

The ’09 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful wine, visually. Such AMAZING color and clarity on this wine. Per the winemaker notes, this Cabernet was made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from 30-year old vines.

On the nose, this wine had a lot of deep berry notes with current and casis in the forefront and a slight hint of leather in the background after it opened up. I let it decant for about an hour or so in the glass. Tasting showed the berry and currents to be forward players and the acidity level was mild, mostly up front. It was very smooth with velvety tannins on the finish. The wine really shows an amazing complexity.

I give the 2009 Peirano Estate Cabernet Sauvignon “FOUR BOTTLES” on the rating scale. It’s definitely a regular in my house….All of this “wine-tasticness” coming from a family business in Lodi, CA for the mere cost of $12 to $14! (depending on quantity you purchase) I frequently tell people all the time: Good wine is out there; it doesn’t have to cost $50/bottle and you do not have to belong to high $ wine clubs to get it in your home. Visit Periano Estate Winery in person if you can, lovely boutique winery – and if you can’t, then visit their website to order the ’09 Cabernet Sauvignon or any of their “Other” great wines!
