Honker Blanc – Sauvignon Blanc
Tudal Family Winery/Cerrutti Cellars
Napa Valley 2010
AMAZING! That would be the word of choice if allowed only one to describe Honker Blanc. The Tudal Family Winery has been known in the valley for their “Library Wines” which consist of small lot, award winning wines. Most of us would know them for their “Tractor Shed Red”. (also a great wine value!) Tudal Family Winery actually produces many different wines and very good ones as a whole. You’ll find the Honker Blanc under their bottling label of Cerrutti Cellars. Their tasting rooms are in St Helena, CA (Napa Valley) and in Jack London Square in Oakland, CA. Both websites give great info on all of the Tudal Family Wines and how and where to buy.
Currently the Honker Blanc sells at the winery and retail for around $14.99/bottle. But right now, Costco has picked them up and is running a special on it for $8.99/bottle. One “Honkn'” buy for this wine! 🙂
On the nose is wonderful fruit of melon and peaches – a hint of honey in the background. After a few nose worthy swirls, the taste comes off smooth and crisp like a classic Sauv Blanc should be – great mouthfeel, like satin. The fruit is up front, peaches, apples and a kiss of grapefruit. Then a wonderful slight grassiness hits in the middle with the best balance of low acidity. The finish is nice and long. GREAT food friendly wine!
I think this one is my “Value of the Week”! Just an all around wonderful, good tasting Sauvignon Blanc that is worth much more than you’ll pay! “FOUR BOTTLES” on my rating scale – I will definitely be heading back to Costco to buy a case for summer!
** The 2010 Honker Blanc just won a double gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
