Renwood Red Label Barbera
Sierra Foothills 2008

Barbera is one of those great varietals that can be made into a Winetastic drink! It’s a simple, non-complex grape that has been making Italian food “magnifico” for many a years!

This little beauty was found by my loving husband at the local Grocery Outlet store in Auburn, CA, where we stayed this past weekend. He had remembered that I mentioned I would want to try Renwood Wines when we last visited Plymouth, CA. So he grabbed this one for the exceptional price of $2.99 a bottle! This wine has sold upwards of $19.00 via online and at winery, so this was a great deal!

The wine had the classic Barbera look – dark and rustic, very majestic. The aromas were inviting – very earthy and a fruit bomb for sure! The taste was classic. Good fruit; a little smoke and a medium finish. All in all this was a great value find! It’s also proven to me that more of the Renwood wines are needed to be tried by this humble reviewer! I think a visit to the winery is in store my next trip to Plymouth, CA. (look for further reviews!)
You can find Renwood Wines at many retail stores and via online shopping or you can go to their website directly at http://www.renwood.com

Remember, Barbera is a grape that by nature is simple and actually lacks complexity. It pairs nicely with most Italian style dishes and the Renwood 2008 Barbera is no exception. I give this one a TWO BOTTLE rating with the potential for another Bottle! This is a simple, classic style Barbera. You don’t really have to ponder it or look for hints of this and that as you might, say… a pinot noir. Best to just pour another glass and enjoy!
