Peirano Estate Vineyards
‘The Other’ Red Wine 2009

Once in awhile, you find that “producer” of something that seems to always get it right – the band that puts out a CD that doesn’t have one bad song on it; the actor that makes every movie a huge success; the resturaunt that can’t seem to make a bad dish and the winery that makes many, many wines and not one of them is remotely unworthy of nothing but praise! Peirano Estate Winery.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Peirano is located in Lodi, CA and they have incredible value wines for everyday and special occasions! Their uniquely named red blend, The Other, is liquid artwork! The ’09 blend consists of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 10% Syrah. This wine is a beautiful dark “inky” red. It sings aromas of blackberries and plums as it aerates; then dances on your palate with sweet dark blackberries; hints of smokey oak and one of the longest, smoothest finishes I’ve ever experienced with a red in this price point. A very balanced, beautiful wine.

I really, really enjoy red blend wines, sometimes more than single varietals. When a winemaker can make a group of wines that stand tall on their own, come together in harmony to be greater than the sum of it’s parts – it’s artwork in winemaking at it’s best! And speaking of artful wine, the label on the bottle is as beautiful as the wine. (a little bonus while you sip!)

I give The Other Red Blend by Peirano Estate Vineyards a FOUR BOTTLE rating. This is case(s) worthy wine all year long! If you are located in California, you can find The Other at Costco locations for about $8.99 per bottle and if not in California you can order directly from their website http://www.peirano.com. Make sure to put this one on your list of “must get”. You won’t be disappointed!
