Halter Ranch Rose
Paso Robles, CA 2011

Rose Rocks! It’s one of the most versatile wines I know when it comes to pairing with food. It’s no wonder why it’s so popular. It’s also a great wine to simply sip, chilled on the patio, all by itself. California Roses’ are found in many wine regions within the state, but one region that stands out when I think of a Great Rose, is Paso Robles wine country. Many of the wineries there make Rhone style wines and even though there are many styles when it comes to Roses’ – my favorite is the Rhone way.

One of the well known wineries in Paso Robles for Rhone style wines is Halter Ranch. They produce a nice variety of wines and the Halter Ranch 2011 Rose is among them. This Rose is truly remarkable. The wine is a beautiful, medium hue of red. What I would specifically call “Rose Colored”. (slightly dark pink). Great clarity. The nose on this pink beauty is vanilla; sweet raspberries and cherries. Intoxicating. The palate is amazing…velvety to the tongue; cherries; pomegranate and raspberries with moderate acidity. Extremely smooth and a very long, sensual finish. This is a dry Rose; not sweet. I paired this wine with a grilled chicken Cobb salad and it was delicious! Of course salads are always great with Roses’, but this one really hit the spot when it came to handling the blue cheese & bacon flavors and let me tell you, avocado and Halter Ranch Rose…..match made in heaven!

Halter Ranch 2011 Rose is produced in what they call a “Southern Rhone Valley style”. It’s a Grenache based blend – 43% Grenache; 42% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. It retails anywhere from $13.99 to $16.00 per bottle. Worth every penny. The winery is nestled in the rolling hills on the west side of Paso Robles. The vineyards are 100% sustainably grown. Halter Ranch has always grown world class grapes and now have themselves on the map with the production of their own wines.

This wine receives a FIVE BOTTLE rating from me…it’s that D’ Vine! The next time you plan a wine trip to California and you are able to consider the Paso Robles Wine Country – you MUST include Halter Ranch on your tour…..in the meantime, get to your local retailer or hop online and pick up a couple bottles of the 2011 Halter Ranch Rose. It’s time you treat yourself this summer from the stresses in everyday life and take a time out to stop and sip the Rose!
