ALEXANDER’S CROWN CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2009
$75.00 per bottle – http://www.rodneystrong.com/
California. Known for sunshine, coastlines and dare I say…Cabernet? When you want to splurge on that special bottle of California Cab, there are many to choose from. I recently found one that is not only “iconic” but one of the first Single Vineyard Cabernets produced in California ~ Alexander’s Crown Cabernet Sauvignon.
Alexander’s Crown Cab is bottled by well known wine producer, Rodney Strong Vineyards. Back in 1974, Rodney Strong released Sonoma County’s first Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and this was the launch of Alexander’s Crown. “The Crown” is undeniably one of Sonoma County’s best Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. Roughly sixty six acres are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon. “The Crown” expresses Cabernet in a Bordeaux-like style and is quite coveted. One additional uniqueness that the Alexander’s Crown Cab brings to the table is; it is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. That alone tells you how remarkable the vineyards are.
The 2009 Alexander’s Crown Cabernet Sauvignon is nothing short of amazing. In the glass this wine reflects what California cabs are all about…deep red with purple highlights. Rich and luxurious as velvet. The scents of blackberries, plums, cassis, vanilla and oak engulf your senses with what’s to come. This wine had me at first sip…blackberries and currants with a ever so slight hint of smoke and wood. A very good balance of acidity to fruit. Slight spice and vanilla notes with very smooth, round tannic structure and long, silky finish.
If ever a wine was worthy of California Dreamn’; it’s this one. With a FIVE BOTTLE Rating from yours truly and a Wine Enthusiast and Wine Advocate backing of 92+ points…you cannot go wrong on this Cabernet. Alexander’s Crown 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon summed up in three words: Worth The Splurge!
