It’s been said, “One can’t get to where they are going without knowing where they’ve been.” Krutz Family Cellars knows not only where they’ve been, but have a future mapped out with such precision, that they also know where they are going and what wine they’ll be drinking along the way! A Sonoma County family with roots from the south and a skill at making some of California’s best boutique wines. Krutz Family Cellars.

I had the pleasure partaking in a wine tasting a few months ago that included my first taste of Krutz Family Cellars. I was overwhelmed with the quality of the wines. Patrick Krutz, proprietor and winemaker has a true talent and I feel very lucky to have added his wines to my tasting reportoi. I predict big times coming their way. Krutz Family Cellars started in 2003 in Monterey, CA with a small goal of producing about 60 cases, by hand, for friends and family. Today, Krutz Family Cellars have settled in Santa Rosa, CA with a winery and tasting room. While they are still considered a “Boutique Winery”, they now produce much more than 60 cases and work by the same philosophy: “A sensational portfolio of wines that are true to varietal character, vineyard fingerprint, with individual style, and un-surpassed quality you can taste.”

dvinewinetime Krutz Family Cellars ChardonnayThe 2010 “Martinelli Road” Russian River Chardonnay at $45.00 a bottle is one of the most amazing Chardonnays’ from California that you can enjoy. The Russian River harvests’ have stood tall the past few years and when you match great grapes with a great winemaker…well, need I say more. The “Martinelli Road” Chardonnay is citrusy with notes of pineapple, apricots, green apples and lemon. It has great crispness and minerality with a exceptional texture that wraps around a little vanilla and a long, full finish. Extraordinary Chardonnay.

2009 “Stagecoach Vineyard” Syrah is what California Syrah is all about. When Patrick Krutz speaks of keeping his wines true to varietal character – he has probably never done so well as he has with the “Stagecoach Vinyard” Syrah. Ninety percent Syrah and ten percent Viognier with a price tag of only $38.00 per bottle. I have sipped on bottles of $75 or more that didn’t come off this good. Krutz Family Cellars has held this varietal to its truest form of “Rhone Style”. Dark blackberries, blueberries and cassis with the classic Syrah smokey licorice and spice. Medium bodied with a voluptuous mouthfeel. It’s complex, just slightly oaky and oh so good. Simply a stunning wine.dvinewinetime Krutz Family Cellars Syrah

When you want to have a California gem that holds itself to true varietal character and share it with all of your friends and family; then this is your wine. At this time, they are sold only winery direct and you can find them located at www.krutzfamilycellars.com. I give both of the Krutz Family wines I tasted a FIVE BOTTLE Rating. These are exceptional, fabulous wines that anyone would be proud partaking in. Please give them a second and third look…you will not be disappointed. After all, as Krutz Family Cellars puts it… anyone that enjoys a bottle of Krutz Family Cellars wine is a part of their extended family….family, freinds and wine is what it’s all about.
