“WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE”

When you take a sip of the voluptuous, sexy 2009 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet, it is said to “Move you like a tiger in the jungle…powerful, but eloquent.” No words could ring truer. These words spoken by none other than himself, Mr. Jean-Charles Boisset of Boisset Family Estates, owners of Raymond Vineyards in the infamous Napa Valley. dvinewinetime Raymond Vineyards 2009 Cabenet 2

Jean-Charles Boisset has lived in the world of wine, starting from infancy, in the village of Vougeot, Burgundy, France. Growing up among century old vineyards that have been the heart of and birthplace of Pinot Noir, there is no doubt as to why he’s acquired such a passion for wine. Currently running Boisset Family Estates and managing more than fifteen wineries, not to mention being one of the largest wine negociants’ in the world, it can be said that he’s a busy man. But to my amazement, not so busy that he can’t find the time to promote his wines and enjoy them to their fullest each and every time, as if it is the first time he’s tasted them.

I had the pleasure of joining Boisset Family Estates in a live twitter tasting a couple months ago and Mr. Jean-Charles attended himself. The 2009 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the wines we tasted through. Aside from the wine being more than phenomenal, it was such a pleasure to be in the presence of a wine owner that could get so into his wines. He’s one of the most genuine, passionate and flat out fun natured persons to know in the wine business!

dvinewinetime Raymond Vineyards 2009 Cabenet 1The 2009 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet is a simplistic beauty in the glass. Dark, crimson red with smoky edges, showing it’s “teenage” age. On the nose this eloquent cabernet exhibits plum, cassis and leathery oak with hints of vanilla tip-toeing around. The first sip of this 2009 cabernet is essentially emotional. An incredible feeling of luxury comes over you. Big dark berries with more cassis. Soft and supple. Once it opens up a bit, you feel the sleekness of the wine…like a lion stalking its prey. Mysterious and amazing. Jean-Charles Boisset calls this 2009 cabernet an “animal vintage”. I think he’s on to something!

Without hesitation, the 2009 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon receives a FIVE BOTTLE rating from me. At $35.00 a bottle…you are going to be buying this wine. There’s no doubt it’s one of Napa Valleys’ finest values. Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Napa Valley 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon…Welcome to the Jungle!

Cheers!
