“THE ROOTS OF CALIFORNIA WINE”

photo 5There are many historic and iconic wineries and families in Napa Valley but the one winery that started it all was none other than Charles Krug Winery. As historic as they are, 2011 was big a milestone for Charles Krug Winery. It marked their 150th vintage as well as it being the inaugural vintage of their Family Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet. The special wines were released this year and are a MUST on anyone’s list of Charles Krug wines to try.

2013 Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc / Estate Bottled – Napa Valley

photo 3This lovely Sauvignon Blanc is not a 2011 vintage but a Limited Release of some of the best 2013 Sauvignon Blanc that I’ve had from the Napa Valley. 100% Sauvignon Blanc straight from the Charles Krug Estate Vineyard. A touch of lemongrass with stone fruit notes woft out of the glass when your pour it. A balanced and even Sauvignon Blanc on the palate: lemon, lime, grapefruit, minerality and a soft, light creaminess that comes from sur lie aging. ALL of the flavors and components you want in a Sauvignon Blanc. A stunning wine and an absolute steal for the mere price of $35.00.

2011 Merlot Napa Valley

photo 4Merlot was once the epic grape of Napa Valley and Charles Krug Winery has not given up on it. They have always produces some great merlots, but the 2011 150th Anniversary Vintage Merlot is the “Merlot of Merlots’”. Simply outstanding. Bing cherries, mocha notes and currants bring this medium bodied merlot to your palate where the balance of fruit, oak and silky tannins, simply dance. I can’t say enough about this wine. No, I really mean I can’t say enough about this wine. You MUST find it and buy it. SRP is only $25.00.

2011 Family Reserve Generations / Napa Valley Estate

photo 2Bottled Red blends. We can’t live without them and Charles Krug Winery will see to it that we don’t. This Reserve blend is quality juice made up of Cabernet Sauvignon; Petit Verdot; Malbec and a splash of Merlot. Marc Mondavi actually came up with this blend in 1991, as Peter Mondavi Sr. had always been partial to single varietal wines….as a matter of fact, most of Napa Valley felt this way. But as trends and tastes change, so does winemaking. Marc & Peter latched on to a wine that could stand the test of time and go up against the best of Cabernets. See for yourself how wonderful it is. SRP of $50.00 and and full commitment from me that you will become a red blend fan after tasting this!

2011 Family Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

photo 1The pièce de résistance. The 2011 Family Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet is the inaugural vintage. Dark cherry and toasted oak with a slight creaminess that feels like velvet. Smooth tannins and a luscious, long finish….this Cabernet Sauvignon will be one of your favorites for a lifetime. You will look forward to each and every vintage. SRP $75.00 and worth every penny.

Charles Krug Winery has captured the heart of many visitors to Napa Valley as it is resoundly one of the first wineries people like to visit, remember fondly and go back to again and again. We all know the name and the family behind it. It’s time to get back to the roots of what was…California wine at it’s finest.

Cheers!
