Yes, it’s that time again. The fourth Thursday of November. The holiday of family, friends, food and wine. Thanksgiving. There are many wines today to choose from that will pair well with Thanksgiving Turkey and the trimmings as well as delighting your guests if you are entertaining at home. I was recently afforded the opportunity to taste in a few selected wines of Italy. They were amazing wines and even better, amazing values. Italian wines may not always be thought of at a traditional American holiday dinner table, but do not let it escape you to give them a try. Food is what these wines love and you will love them for it!

dvinewinetime Italian ProsccecoMionetto Brut Prosecco – SRP = $14.00
Crisp with green apple, grapefruit and a little kiwi; pineapple making it feel fruity with an awesome, clean finish. Great bubble structure that tickles your nose! This prosecco is a great apartif wine or a welcome glass as they arrive for the party. A must try value for the holidays!

dvinewinetime Italian SoaveRocca Sveva Soave Classico 2012 – SRP = $17.00
Soave (pronounced So-Ah-Ve) is a dry white Italian wine from the Veneto region in northeast Italy, primarily around the city of Verona. It’s bright and tart with lemon citrus and full of apple, pear and tropical fruit. Not much mineral, herbal or floral notes with Soave….it’s all about the fruit! A great white wine starter for the Thanksgiving dinner table. Salad courses as well as any appetizers. The Rocca Sveva Soave is an artisanal estate-bottles wine and an exceptional Soave to try if you are first timer!

dvinewinetime Italian NebbioloPertinace Nebbiolo 2009 – SRP = $18.00
Nebbiolo is always a favorite with roasted meats! The Pertinace Nebbiolo is from the Piedmont region of Italy and is one of the best light bodied Nebbiolo’s I’ve had. A beautiful garnet red with blackberry jam and smoky leather…it’s a dreamboat with turkey! This one is bright with acidity and finishes off with cherries lingering on the tongue. A wonderful food wine, especially Thanksgiving dinner options, including roasted beef or ham. This will be a show stopper for sure!

If you have never tried Italian varietals’ with Thanksgiving and you are still pondering what wines to choose for dinner this Thursday….look no further. Find these wines at many of your local wine retailers and give them a swirl. I know you will be happy you did, your guests will be pleased you did and your pocket book with have plenty leftover for Black Friday!

Happy Thanksgiving All!

Cheers!
