Handcraft Artisan Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah are beautiful wines with an “everyday wine” value you cannot afford to pass up. The lovely ladies of Handcraft, have put their personal touches and family history into making these wines. They are crafted into thoughtful works of art that they drink at their dinner tables every night and want you and I to be able as well. Cheryl Indelicato is a third generation California vintner, who created HandCraft Wines. The wines are inspired by family, food and the joys of everyday life. Her intent was to create a line of wines that had a style and flavor profile that would speak directly to women. Cheryl teamed up with veteran winemaker, Alicia Ysais, to develop a wine that would be fruit forward and easy to enjoy. She sought to create wines that pair well with food, as cooking and entertaining are two of her greatest passions and also the passions of many other women running families out there. Per Cheryl: “When Alicia and I started working on HandCraft in 2010, it was really a chance for me to honor working women. I know there are a lot of us out there and we need all the help we can get to simplify our lives. Choosing a wine can be intimidating, so I wanted to make certain that if someone chose my wine, they would be rewarded with an enjoyable experience.”

Cheryl and Alicia couldn’t have been more spot on. I can’t think of anyone, including myself, that hasn’t done the weekly shopping or ran up to a wine store on a Friday afternoon that didn’t find themselves intimidated by too many wine choices and not knowing what you may like or better yet, will it be good enough for the money I shell out? Let me guarantee you one thing: Handcraft Wines are what they say they are…Handcrafted; Artisan and made with YOU, the everyday wine drinker at home in mind. They are fantastic!

The 2010 Pinot Noir is outstanding. I was truly surprised by this wine as Pinot Noir can be difficult to balance and showcase the fruit without loosing the acidic nature of the wine. Handcraft got it done! Bright cherry red in color with a nose of cherries, currants, strawberries and a hint of vanilla. The Pinot Noir dances on your tongue with more cherries, raspberries, tart cranberry. Like I said, the wine is very balanced with a long, smooth finish. I paired this wine with Braised Chicken Thighs & Mushrooms…a great match!

The 2010 Petite Sirah was everything a Petite Sirah should be and definately not so Petite! With a dark, inky purple color you know your in for big nose quality! Dark berries; a little spice with hints of vanilla and chocolate….made my mouth water. This wine is the essence of fruit-forwardness. Blueberries and blackberries with a round texture, light acidity and moderate tannins that let the Petite Sirah fruit shine through without bitterness. This wine can truly be enjoyed sipping it on its own (which is what I did!) or open a bottle on Friday after work to sip with that carry out pizza you brought home for the kids….either way, you will be happy!

The Handcraft Artisan Collection of wines consist of both the Pinot Noir; Petite Sirah; Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. They were launched nationally in January of this year, so they are relatively easy to find in most wine retail stores. I’m scoring both the 2010 Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah a FOUR BOTTLE rating. I would definately have a case of this wine on hand for everyday drinking (in fact I bought a case of the Pinot Noir shortly after I tasted it!) At $14.99 per bottle, the wine is versatile and speaks loads of quality above its low impact to your pocket book!

Much thanks to Cheryl and Alicia for understanding the need of simplifying a woman’s busy life and allowing her the simple joys of knowing she can enjoy that glass of wine from Handcraft…just as soon as she can get to it!
